South Dakota, Yankton June 8 - 15

Lewis and Clark State Park, on the Missouri river near Yankton, SD.  Here Kay and I met up with my brother James and his wife Bev, and his family for a week of fun and games.  James kids, Brett, Tona, and Darby were all camping with us as well as some of their friends.  There were a bunch of us.  Bret Moeller, his friend Vicky, her daughter Mary, Brett's daughter Asia and her little boy Raymond.  Tona & Barrie Larsen and their four kids, Joe - Brianna - Ryker - Cooper.  Darby & Ben Steffen and their four kids, Lily - Katie - Hank - Charlie.  Terry, (Brett-Tona-Darby's) mom and her husband Jerry Fleege.  To say the least, there were many of us out there.  A great many hours we spent playing bean bags.

Lake Yankton, located on the lower side of the dam.

Lily in Kay's kayak on Lake Yankton.

This is the turtle Lily and I rescued.  It had a fish hook in its mouth and the line was wrapped around the log it was standing on.  We got the line off the hook, but could not  get the hook out of its mouth.  At least it can swim free and feed.

This was some big bull frog.

Katie in Kay's kayak on Lake Yankton.  It is hard to tell her and her sister Lily apart.

One of Jim's favorite little animals a stripped  gofer.

Looking at the Missouri River from our campsite.

Charlie and Cooper on their bikes.  The four boys did a lot of riding the time we were in the park.  I even had to take a bike ride with them several days along with their Grandpa Jim.

Kay and her children.  A sight you see many times.

Having supper with Brett Moeller and his friend Vicky and Mary.  Along with Jim and Bev and Kay.

Joey Nickles,  Tona's son and Jim's grandson.

Now this is a crew.  Left side Barrie's  Dad - Barrie Larsen - Tona Larsen - Jim Moeller - Marty Moeller - and the front row Charlie Steffen - Cooper Larsen.

This was the game of the week, bean bags.  Here is Ben  tossing a red bag,  you can see it in the air in front of him, while Jim waits for his turn to toss.  This went on all day and night.  They even had to get a big light so they could see the boards at night.

Went fishing with Ben in his boat one day.  This fish is called a drum.  While trying to get the fish hook out of it, got it stuck in my thumb real bad.  While trying to take it out, Ben was talking to Darby, he told her "Marty got a Drum and a Thumb"  Now the term stayed with me the rest of the visit with them.

Had to dig out some of my kites, so I could teach Jim and Brett to fly them.

Jim waiting for Brett to get the kite ready to fly after he smashed it into the ground.

Nice campfire.

Now this was interesting.  This is a hot air bag, with its own fire source under the bag.  After the bag fills up with hot air, you let it go.  The wind was just right that night, and when they let it go it drifted across the Missouri River to Nebraska.  One could see it for a long time, floating in the air.

This little finch was building a nest near by, and kept coming by looking for good stuff for it.

This is Terry and Jerry Fleeg's restaurant. Jim - Bev - Marty - Kay went there on Friday night for prime-rib dinner.  It was one of the best I have ever eaten.

Of course, we always had to make a trip to  DQ for a snack.
