California, Desert Hot Springs Jan 19 - Feb 4

The next stop on our adventures is Desert Pools RV Resort in Desert Hot Springs, CA  Here we meet up with John & Terry Edwards, John's Sister Mary and Mark Nichols, and John and Robin (Bunny) Schrader.  It was an over due rest for Kay and me.

Desert Hot Springs, California
Several of us decided to take a ride up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The tramway in Palm Springs, California, is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the world. It was opened in September 1963 as a way of getting from the floor of the Coachella Valley to relatively near the top of San Jacinto Peak and was constructed in rugged Chino Canyon. Before its construction, the only way to the top of the mountain was to hike a number of hours from Idyllwild.
This is one of the towers that holds  he tram up.

The tram coming down.  these tram cars are very different.  the floor rotates counter-clockwise around as it goes up the mountain.  This way all the people in the car will get a view all the way around.  Kinda of interesting idea I think.

The Moeller's,  we still have our purple jackets from the Hi-Country camping group.

We visited the Thursday night street fair.  For some reason we had never done that in our many visits to this area.  Marty - Bunny - John

John and Marty standing under the statue of Marilyn.  We both had to look up to see what she was wearing.

Supper at the campground.  We did do a lot of meals together.  Helena - Mary - Mark

John in for seconds.

Kay and I found this Preserve as we were driving to Sam's Club one day.  Had to stop and check it out.

Must have been an oasis.  We walked through a lot of palm trees.  Only bad thing is we couldn't take the dogs on the walking trails so we couldn't stay too long because the dogs were in the car.  We'll have to come back again and spend longer.

We took a drive to Joshua Tree National Park park one day with John and Bunny.

Lots of interesting rock formations in this park.

Lots of rock climbers take advantage of the park to work on their skills.

Not sure what Kay is pointing at

Bunny must be pointing at the same thing.

John can't decide if he want to take the other trail.

Every weekend there is a street fair at College of the Desert.  They have lots of interesting artwork, but also music, food and farmer's market.  Only in Palm Springs will you find Mercedes, BMW's and Audi's at a flea market.
