North Dakota Devil's Lake July 28 - Aug 4, 2015

Graham's Island State Park, North Dakota  The campground is located on an island in the middle of Devils Lake.  It was a nice campground, but the wind blew most of the time.  The day we got there the waves on the lake were at least four feet high.  The first night the wind blew so hard, we had to put the kitchen and bedroom slides in.  We thought it was going to blow the camper over.

Kay's flowers and a bug

These big dragonflies were all over the place.  The wing span was about 4 inches.

I found this little yellow dragonfly.  The picture is not the sharpest, but it was different.

Some pictures along the shore line of Devils Lake, ND

Looking out the window of the camper at the fish cleaning station.  It was a very busy place the whole time we were camped here.

On the road looking for one of the National Wildlife Refuges,  Which we never did find.

This is one of the roads we ended up driving on looking for the NWR  Now this is about rural North Dakota as one can get.

There were lots of little ponds along the road, with lots of ducks on them.

Located on the southeastern edge of the town of Fort Totten, this site preserves a military post built in 1867 and used continuously as a military reservation until 1890 when it became a boarding school for Indian children. The brick buildings, which replaced an earlier log fort, appear much as they did when built of locally made brick in 1868. Original buildings are now being used to house museum exhibits.

Marty spent many years in this type of school desks.  When he went to school in Zell, and the country school near his home in South Dakota

There was a nice board walk all the way around the center court.  That made it easy to walk on.

Time for Marty to stop and take a rest.

This shows one of the sewing classrooms used for the school.  Marty learned to sew on one of these old Singer treadle machines,

A view of the stuff at the general store on the post.

Guess there was a chapel of some kind on the post.

Marty's Grandmother used to have one of these old Victrola players.
