Wyoming, Riverton July 15 - 22

Wind River Good Sam Park  Riverton, Wyoming.  So glad we included Riverton in our Wyoming summer trip.  We got to spend some good quality time with Kay's Mom's cousin Myrt McFarland who lives in Riverton.  Great visit!

Myrt and Kay catching up.

We took a drive to Thermopolis driving through the famous Wind River Canyon.

These Teepees were alongside the river.  The river guides use these to serve lunch on the all day adventures.

The river canyon was beautiful.  Some day Marty wants to come back to fish the Wind River.

The boat ramp on the Big Horn River at Thermopolis.  We didn't kayak here this year, it would be quite a drive to bring two vehicles.  Next visit to Wyoming we'll have Thermopolis on our list of places to stay.  There is just so much to do here.

Max and Zoe loved the run off from the hot springs, they could play in the warm water.

Spring run off into the little creek that dumps into the Big Horn River.

The formation created by the mineral springs run off is beautiful.

A woodpecker posing for it's picture.

Another thing we want to visit on our next visit is the dinosaur dig and museum.

We drove back south of town to check out where we could launch the kayaks.

Marty checking out the launch.

Not a lot of flowers but thought this was pretty.

Drive south back through Wind River Canyon.

Stopped to take a picture of the tunnels.

The Boysen dam on the wind river.

The reservoir at Boysen state park.

Power line tower, kind of an interesting picture.

Max and Zoe wondering what Kay is doing climbing over the rails.

Kay will do anything for a good shot.

After a good kayak trip we like to find local pizza places.  Even though we didn't kayak we treated ourselves anyway.  Perrett's was recommended to us by our sister-in-law Kathy and we're really glad she did the pizza was great.

And the beer wasn't too bad either.

Two happy people!

Myrt came to the RV park for dinner one evening.

Myrt treated us to dinner in Hudson, Wyoming.  Svilar's has been around for a long time.  In fact Myrt told us that she and Mac had their first date here.

Three happy diners.  The steaks were fabulous and there was more than enough to take home for another meal.  What a great time we had.  If you ever get near here it's a must to visit Svilar's.

We happened to be in Riverton on a very busy weekend.  One of the things going on was a car and bike show.

This is a 1954 mercedes

All the smoke is from a burn-out contest.  Myrt just got caught in the middle of it.

Marty holding a baby lynx.  The owner told us he'll get to be upwards to 40 pounds.

We met these two young men Joe and Jason as we were going down the street.  I think it was Joe's  Mom was there with them, and wanted us to send her this picture.  So Kay did, and got a very nice Thank you e-mail back from her.  That is one of the nice things about traveling the country.  One meets some very nice people

One sweet 1956 Mercury
This 1950 for 2 door is just like my first car.

Someone put a lot of work into painting this hood.

Saturday we took a drive to Sinks Canyon State Park near Lander, Wyo.  The dogs couldn't wait to get out of the car and take a hike.

The river coming into the Sinks.

The sinks where the water disappears underground and then reappears at the Rise.

Curious Zoe.

Max is really starting to like the water.

A cave that I think leads to another area where the water travels underground in high water conditions.

This is the Rise where the water reappears above ground.

There were hundreds of trout in this area but sorry there is a no fishing sign posted.

Another view of the Rise/.

Just another pretty view.

Marty taking a picture of a flower.

Actually I think he was trying to get a picture of this bee.

Sunday Myrt was flying to Denver to visit kids and grandkids.  These antelope were at the airport to see her off.
