Alabama, Langston November 7 - 21

Our first stop in Alabama is at Mountain Lakes Resort, near Langston.  It is located on Guntersville Lake, which is part of the Tennessee River System.  I would guess the lake is at least 75 miles long.  From where our camper is located in the resort I can look out the back window and have a lovely view of the lake.
 Langston, Alabama
Sunset on the first evening we arrived.
Me getting the kayak ready to put into the lake.  Kay is already out on the water.  You can see the back of the camper in the background.
There was this green slimy moss growing all over this part of the lake.  It made fishing very difficult.  In fact I have not caught a single fish yet.

a look at one of the islands in the lake.

This is the view out the back window of the camper.  Kay and I do like this resort.  We plan on coming back some day.

We watched eagles nesting in the old tree on the island across the lake. This picture was taken with Kay's new camera that has a 14X zoom.

Another one of the beautiful sunsets.

Had to stop and take a picture of the cotton field.

We took a drive up to Little River Canyon National Preserve.  It is located in the north eastern corner of Alabama.  Maxwell and I at one of the overlooks.  It was a really beautiful place.

Kay tromping through the woods.  A lot of the leaves have fallen already, but the color is still great.
Another one of the many overlooks on the canyon road.

This is Mushroom Rock in the middle of the road.

Kay exploring more of the rock formations.

Lots of leaves on the ground.  The dogs love to run through them.

With the truck on the road, you can see how big Mushroom rock is.

A view of the colors along the road in Little River Canyon.

We love to travel the back country roads where ever we stay.
Now you don't see too many of these emus in the woods of Alabama.

The other thing about driving the back country roads, is seeing stuff like this.

The deer were not afraid of Kay and the dogs getting close to them.

A view of Guntersville Lake from the State Park just south of the resort.

Max and Zoe pulling Kay up the hill.

Zoe with a very bad hair day.    She will get a new look once we get to Athens, GA

Max is also very shaggy.  The last time they have been to the groomer was in Denver.

Somewhere in Alabama.  I can't remember where I took this picture.  But it is my good looking family.
High Falls Park on Town Creek.  It is located just north of the campground.

I was standing at the edge of the falls when this picture was taken.

This is a great walking bridge over Town Creek
The gang on their way back across the bridge.  We were really surprised to find this place.  It was so peaceful.  Got to walk down on the rocks under the bridge.  They were very smooth and flat.  Would be a good place to come and spend a summer day.  The dogs had a great time playing in the water.
Finally on Sunday, the weather was good enough so we went up to Saulty Creek in Buck's Pocket State Park to put the kayaks in the water before we leave Alabama.
Kay paddled way up stream, while I stayed here in this part of the creek to fish.
The stripped bass were not very big, about 6 to 13 inches.  But I did get 25 of them.  I only catch and release the fish.  It was one of my better days of fishing at this stop.
There were many strong tornadoes in this area last spring.  A lot of damage was done.  We saw a lot of trees were down and now dead.  Kay thought this was kind of a cool shot.
Just some more fall leaves.

Tennessee, Nashville Oct 31 to Nov 7

Nashville, Tennessee is the home of country music.  It was a very interesting city to explore with lots of very interesting buildings.  All the people we met here were very friendly.  Our friends Bob and Irmie Mitchell flew out from Denver to spend a few days with us.  It was very good to see them.  We met them each morning at the Cracker Barrel for breakfast, there went my diet.

We drove downtown and parked the car so we could walk around the city.

The next few pictures are some of the buildings in downtown Nashville.

Looking across the Cumberland River from downtown Nashville
We spent a few hours in the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum.  Irm and Bob viewing one of the many displays.
The costumes were out of this world.
Here are a couple ready to be picked up.

After the Museum, we went to Jack's for a good BBQ lunch.

The Grand Ole Opry was held in the old Ryman Auditorium and not in the new Opry building.  They were decorating the new one for the Christmas shows.
While waiting to get into the Grand Ole Opry, a couple of actors representing Minnie Pearl and Hank Williams came out to entertain the people.  Of course I had to have my picture taken with them.

Kay, Irm and Bob waiting for the show to start.  We had very good seats up in the balcony.
The show for the night was, Jeannie Seely - Edens Edge - Jimmy Dickens - Phil Vassar - Riders In The Sky - Rodney Atkins - Rascal Flatts.
Edens Edge,  the young lady was very good.
Little Jimmy Dickens.  Jimmy will be 91 years young in December.  He still hosts the Opry four days a week.  Seeing him, was on my bucket list.
Riders In The Sky.  They have been on the Opry for 35 years.

The Hermitage
On Wednesday we drove out to the Hermitage.  It was the home and plantation of President Andrew Jackson.  We spent most of the afternoon touring the grounds and his home.  They didn't allow us to take pictures on the inside of the house.
Looking at the side of the home.
Some school kids giving parts of the tour of the house.  It was nice to hear them give their talks.
We took a wagon ride around the plantation.  The woman giving the tour was very knowledgeable of the history of the Jackson's family.
nice horses
Now that is a good looking couple.

This is the cabin Andrew Jackson and his family lived for 17 years before they moved to the big house.

This is the final resting place for Andrew Jackson and his wife Rachel

The Hermitage Church.

On the way out, I had to investigate this little green bug.

Sunday Kay and I did the dinner show cruise on the General Jackson Showboat.  It cruised up and back on the Cumberland River.

Kay waiting for us to be boarded on the boat.  She sure did look good, but she always looks good.
A toast to us.   We had very good seats for the show.  The dinner was very good also.
The group was called the American Country Singers.  They were quite talented.
