Arizona, Surprise, Happy Trails Resort March 1-31

This is our post for the month of March at Happy Trails.  Once again we spent a lot of time with Bob and Irmie.  We played many games of cards and lots  of Farkle.  Bob and Marty played poker two times a week.  Kay said she liked that, for it got Marty out of her hair for an evening.  We took several road trips with the dogs, just to see the countryside.

A view of the town center near the movie theater.  Great places to eat lunch.
Darren Skanson and his playing buddy Greg Hansen were playing at an Art and Wine Festival in Carefree, AZ.  Kay and I drove up to hear them play.

Kay walking down one of the streets in the park at Carefree.
This was an interesting water fountain,
Since the weather had been cold, they put flower pots on top of the cactus to keep the buds from freezing or at least that's what we figured they were for.
This is a very big sundial in the center of the Carefree park.
Yes we had to have our picture taken with the GEICO Gecko.
I do not know why I even put this picture in this blog.  I look like I a ready to whoop up on somebody.
Our first game at the Rockies spring training camp in AZ.  The Rockies did end up winning the game.
Todd Helton just hit the ball to right field.  If you look close you can see the ball in the air between the pitcher and the umpire.
Todd standing on first base.  He is such a good player.
Dinger the Rockies mascot.
The Mitchell's and us went for supper one Saturday night.  They had a country band, so Kay and I had to do at least one dance.
Momma Rose ( Irm's mother)
We took a drive with the dogs north of Surprise into the mountains.  Maxwell got to run in the snow.
We found this rock toad along side of the road.  Some one had a good sense of humor.
A look down into the valley.
The red rocks were quite beautiful near Sedona.
This church is near Sedona, AZ
What an interesting structure.  Love the way they built it into the rocks.
The candle wall inside the church.
Pretty pansies
This sculpture was just outside of the church.
Kay thought these cactus were worth taking a picture of.
Parking on the road below the church.
Jerry and Kathy O'Brien at their annual St. Paddy's Day party.  They were our land lords at Happy Trails.
This ball field was only three miles from Happy Trails.  We went there a couple of times.  The Rockies also won this game 7-2.
This is one of the salt water pools in the park.  The water was very warm.

Francine and Orin from Mitchell, NE came and had dinner with us one day.  Francine and Kay have been best friends for many years.
Our 5th Wheel got a new look while were at Happy Trails.  We got two new recliners.
Took out all the carpet in the living room and had 16 x 16 tile floor put in,
Got a new office chair for the computer station.  Sure does look good in our old home now.  Should have done this a few years ago.  We also got all the hail damage repaired to the camper while were here.
My old High School classmate Don Schaffer and his wife Karen came to Happy Trails to visit us for three days. Don and Karen live in  Buena Park, CA. They parked there motor home on the lot next to us.  This is Karen and Kay in her home.

Arizona, Surprise, Happy Trails Resort Feb 1 - 29

Happy Trails Resort.  The atmosphere here is very relaxed, no one really moves very fast, including me.  Our friends from Denver, Bob and Irm and Irm's mother Rose live about two blocks from our site.  We've been doing a lot of things with them,  Playing a lot of cards and games, going to a few movies, and out to eat at local restaurants.

We took a trip up to Lake Pleasant to kayak.  The surrounding area around the lake is not one of the pettiest that we have kayaked in.  But is was good to get into the water again.  There is not a lot of places to kayak here near Surprise.
 Just paddling along the shore.
There were not a lot of boats on the lake the day we kayaked.
View of the shore line.  quite boring if I say so myself.
More of the shore line.

We did find a lot of trash along the shore.  There were even garbage bags floating in the water.  I think this is one of the worst lakes I have ever kayaked.
I did find this anchor along the shore.  It can replace the one I lost in Florida.
More of the shore line.
A saguaro cactus
A couple of Mallard ducks on the lake.
I have been feeding the Quail and Doves on the little hill behind the camper.
One of the many Doves that come to eat.  This one is a Rock Dove.
A young Grackle
A Male and Female Quail
The male Quail has a black patch on the under side near its feet.
Grackle
The picture of this coyote was taken just behind the camper on the 14th Tee.  There are many of them in the park on the golf course.  We really have to keep an eye on the dogs when we let them outside.
Me and Kay at our first spring training game getting ready to go see the Rockies play the San Diego Padres.
Walt Weiss the Rockies new manager, was one of my most favorite players.

Eric Young JR at bat.
Eric Young JR. on first base.
Another win for the Rockies  6 - 3
The Mexican Grill where we met John and Terry Edwards for lunch.
John took this picture of us at Los Taquitos where we had lunch with them.
Our kayaking friends John and Terry Edwards from Kansas City.  They have been staying at Casa Grande.
